Choosing Lighting by Room
Use ceiling fixtures for general light, pendants over islands or dining tables, chandeliers where the room needs a stronger focal point, and flush mounts where ceiling height is limited. Sconces work well in hallways, bedrooms, bathrooms, reading corners, and beside mirrors. Table lamps and floor lamps soften living rooms and bedrooms, while desk and task lighting keeps work areas more focused.
Scale, Height, and Finish
Lighting should match the room size, ceiling height, table width, and sightlines. A fixture that is too small can disappear, while one that is too large can make the room feel tight.
